SENIOR LIVING

Morehouse parish Council on Aging

Morehouse Parish offers many services to support senior living. The smaller size of the community is attractive to independent seniors who still drive automobiles and shop. The Council on Aging at 821 Washburn, provides well balanced meals at a very reasonable cost Monday through Friday. Delivered meals are also available as well as many in home services to provide for residents to remain and live in their homes. A fitness center is available to promote wellness and exercise. For information of services available call 318-283-0845.

Assisted Living in Bastrop

Other options are available including apartments in the Historic Bastrop High School which was recently renovated into 1 and 2 bedroom units and provides independence with a community atmosphere. There are a number of assisted living centers that offer more services at reasonable rates. There are also four extended care facilities in Bastrop and Mer Rouge which allow patients to remain near family and friends.

RETIRING IN MOREHOUSE PARISH

The quality of life and modest living costs in Morehouse Parish make it a fine place in which to retire, whether it is on the water or on some of the thousands of undeveloped acreage. Why not take advantage of what the parish offers retirees:

  • 20 miles to Monroe, a major metro area
  • 20 minutes to Interstate-20
  • 25 minutes to a regional airport
  • Low property taxes
  • A moderate climate
  • Activities such as hunting, fishing, golfing, and historical parks and other sites.
  • 7 hospitals and other medical care in the region including numerous specialists
  • Close proximity to shopping including Simmon’s a major sportsman’s store in Bastrop
